Frozen Water Bottle Roll
Self-massage of the plantar fascia is one of the most cost-effective interventions: it costs nothing, takes 60 seconds, and combines mechanical mobilisation with the analgesic effect of cold (if frozen). Important framing: this is self-massage, not a stretch. The mechanical effect is on the fascia tissue itself, not on length.
How to do it
- 1
Freeze a small water bottle solid the night before
Frozen bottle ready
- 2
Sit on a chair with your foot flat on the floor
Sit tall, foot flat
- 3
Place the frozen bottle under your arch and rest your foot on it
Bottle under arch
- 4
Apply gentle, steady downward pressure and roll slowly from heel to the ball of the foot
Slow heel-to-toes roll
- 5
Continue rolling for 60 seconds. Switch feet. Repeat once if both feet are affected
Steady pressure, 60 seconds
